I didn’t know what else to call this one!
These came in as a pair recently. Two weird and wonderful vintage wood and brass fishing reels with unusual features.
One, a simple shallow-drum sea fishing style reel with optional check button and over engineered brass fittings. The second is amazing.
It is fitted with a plunger assembly operating two friction brake blocks against the raised brass ring hub, and, it works!!! Both have similar Perspex covers over the drum screws, I assume to keep the salt out, they work too.
Scratch built by the look of them? Could be Australian, who cares, what a weird and wonderful pair for the collection cabinet.
