Continuing with the theme of centrepin reels we are pleased to see a strong increase in interest in these classic reels both by collectors and keen users. I still get a thrill ‘spinning’ one of these reels and watching them turn almost endlessly. The combination of traditional looks and modern precision manufacturing has only increased passion for these reels.
Many ‘pin’ enthusiasts are downsizing or selling their entire collections and this gives an opportunity to pick up reels that are often rare and ‘fresh to the market’. One such reel came in with a large collection last week and caught my eye.
A Richard Carter ‘The Avon Classic Centrepin’. A 4.5 inch, wide drum model number inside 18 and complete with original box, reel bag and paperwork. Even included are two additional handles in black. As opposed to the white handles fitted. (Interestingly I have a Mill Tackle Ultimate Trotter that is fitted with three handles for extra control).

Whilst highly desirable, but not especially rare, as they do come up from time to time, but this came with copy of an interesting article from the Angling Times dated October 1994 around the time this reel was manufactured.
I thought I would share this with you as it goes into some detail on the various processes involved in the manufacture of these stunning reels.
