One of the best parts of this job is when the phone rings and you have no idea what is about to be offered for sale.
Last week one such call allowed us to buy a large collection of rare and limited-edition Hardy reels, a very small portion of which is shown here.
The Hardy ‘Beefy’ is the Ashes Victory Perfect. Named after Ian ‘Beefy’ Botham, a limited production run of only 50 numbered reels worldwide were handmade in Alnwick. Launched in 2013, they sold quickly and are very tough to find on the resale market. These are already a collector’s classic item and only going up in value.
Other reels include the “Royal Wedding Commemorative Fly reel”. A 3” Golden St George produced to commemorate the marriage of HRH Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton in April 2011.
Another is the “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee 1952-2012 Hardy Perfect 3-1/4”” with the faceplate engraved “ER” under the crown rod in hand logos, with spitfire finish and red agate line guide. It comes with a gold finish medallion in a presentation case, as does the similar Hardy Bougle 1903-2013 reel, 3-1/4”, in spitfire finish with red rod in hand logo and white handle.
The limited-edition Hardy Tweed Perfect No 21 is very desirable, being the only salmon Perfect that can be fished right or left-hand wind, featuring twin rotating nickel line guides.
The collection includes many other reels, including Golden Sovereigns, Cascapedia, Flyweight, Featherweights, Perfects, and other Bougle reels, accompanied by a fine collection of high ends rod to match.
