Like Buses and Policemen…

You never see one, then ten come along together! That’s the story of these weird reels we started writing about a few weeks ago.

This particular reel I believe is engineer or scratch built. A very clever and imaginative person has devised this one, the twisting foot assembly I’m sure was born from an old nursery rhyme:

“You press the brass finger that pushes the rod, which operates the lock that releases the foot and allowing the reel to turn”, ta da! Should be to music really!

Unusual vintage fishing reel

The casing is machine turned, fretted at the rear so you see the internal gubbins, has a central crank winding arm to a clever polished wood effect Tufnal drum. It even has an over-engineered brake tensioner in brass and alloy.

I love it, not seen another of course. It fits in the palm of your hand  and is very tactile but most of all, it works!
