Just arrived from sunny Northampton is this curious friction drive spinning reel showing the influences of Illingworth, Rudge and Stanley.
Scratch built, well-engineered and completely over the top in terms of weight and strength.
The machined parts are well made, if a bit on the heavy side. I wonder how many reels were turned out on the night shift across our fair nation?

It features a two-way bail arm that suggests the reel can be fished as both right and left hand wind?
However, the only way of doing this is to fish left hand with the reel under the rod and right hand with the reel on top as some Silex and Aerial anglers preferred.
A neat solution producing one reel for all anglers.
The brass knurled cone adjusts onto a spring washer base to achieve an effective drag system. The rubber drive ring remains soft and has not perished, even after decades of use.
Keep them coming, we love these odd ball reels and hope you do too!?
“Don’t chuck it out – check it out!”
