The Hardy Barton Dry Fly Fishing Reel – a rare reel for the collector

We thought we would share this lovely Hardy Barton Dry Fly Reel with you which is a rare little reel, especially when in original condition like this one we have in stock at the moment (apologies if it has already sold by the time you read this!)

It is one of only 109 reels made of this pattern between 1934 & 1939.

The reel has a 3-1/4″ diameter, fitted with correct off-set 66mm brass ribbed foot as required by its originator, Dr E A Barton.

Hardy Barton fly reelThere is a 3 screw drum latch, reverse taped black handle and a rim tension brake adjuster which in this case is working 100% – always a nice detail.

<– Looking closer it also has the correct 4 screw nickel rectangular line guide fitted into the frame, and of course the backplate is stamped The Barton Dry Fly Reel Made by Hardy brothers Ltd, Alnwick England

This particular example of the Hardy Barton reel retains its good factory dark lead finish.

Important things to note with any vintage reel are that as with this one that the drum rotates smoothly, with no wobble, no cracks, no chips, no repairs, nothing!

This is just a good honest, rare example for the Hardy collector.
