Buying frenzy!

(post) Buying frenzy!

Do you ever get days that just run smoothly? I don’t often, but our valuation day at Rod and Tackle did! The morning of Monday 7th April soon arrived and by 4am my son William and I were at Bristol Airport ready to catch the 7am flight to Newcastle. Sunny skies, no delays and by 9:30am we were sat having a coffee at Newcastle airport waiting for our taxi to Rod & Tackle.

As always Grant Harris and Dave Hogg gave us a warm welcome and although kick off was planned for 10am, by 09:30 the first of many customers started arriving at the front door! It was non-stop all day, with some people waiting 45 minutes to see me for their valuations. Dave and Grant were on hand to make many teas and coffees!

And what fantastic items were brought along! The majority of what was offered was from our top makers such as Sage, Hardy, Orvis, Abu etc. First off were a pair of Hardy Zane reels, a no 1 and a no 2 along with a couple of Hardy rods. It was only 9:45 and the first good purchase of the day was made. What a start!

The next 4 hours followed this pattern, quality, quality and more quality! A beautiful mint Hardy Silex Major that I don’t think had ever seen the riverbank, various Perfects in Trout and Salmon size, a host of rods including Sage Sonic’s, Crosscurrents by Loomis. The star of the day was a wonderful, limited-edition Abu ‘Karsk’ set, which will be listed very soon, along with all of our other fantastic purchases!

Many Thanks to Dave and Grant for their continued support of Thomas Turner and for letting us host our valuation day at their fantastic shop in Cramlington, Newcastle. And of course, to my son William and to the many people that took time out of their day to come and see us.

By 4pm it was time to get the taxi back to the airport and the flight home! What a day! We are looking to do our next valuation day at Rod & Tackle in September 2025.

Richard has also had a busy week. Here is his update!

I had a visit from one of our regular customers with a collection of 30 ‘retro’ match/barbel/Avon/travel rods but also including some nice cane rods from Hardy, Allcocks and Fosters. Classic rods at sensible prices. Top quality cane rods must be amongst the best value pre-owned tackle and so very pleasurable to fish with.  Additionally, one of the best collections of centrepins we have bought for a while with reels from J. W. Young, Hardy, Mill Tackle, Dave Swallow, Adcock, Allcocks and more. Wonderful quality, wonderful value.

Centrepins seem to be in high demand.  Is there a fightback from the seemingly endless carp side of the market with self-hooking rigs, and the plethora of carp lakes filled with named fish? If that ‘floats your boat’ then all well and good but if there is an increase in traditional fishing then we applaud it.

In addition to the above we have some more of the excellent Thomas and Thomas (“The rod you will eventually own”) rods on their way to us direct from their USA factory. There are new rods with manufacturer’s warranty together with further ex demo rods which are covered by our comprehensive 12 months warranty. All rods are 8ft 8 inches 4 piece travel rods in different line weights. World quality.

A very busy week sourcing top quality tackle for our website.

As always part exchanges welcome.
