TT opinion:

A fine and rare antique tackle releaser or Otter. Featured in Jamie Maxtone Graham’s book, Fishing Tackle of Yesterday p 187. A 7” square section wooden body with brass hinge and swing latch hook fastening. The forward hole is fitted with a swing celluloid plate which allows more of less water to pass through the releaser adjusting the height, A loop to the rear is used to attach a cord to pull back the releaser once in the river. Never seen one in the flesh, Jamie reckons it has Scottish origins. Either way, a great gadget for the collector.
