TT opinion:
Early Nottingham Centre reel in mahogany & brass with original matching turned handles on eye plates. unusual flat spine back shape secured with 6 handmade steel screws, dating c1870s. 4” diameter with a 6-rivet brass centre plate, the drum can only be removed by extracting the plugin centre of the spool core then & undoing the locking screw on the brass collar you see inside. The drum can then be slid off, Really fiddly to assemble, but using forceps to hold the screw assembly inside the spool and then push in the spindle seems to work, In all the year of collection I only ever owned one of these. Super rare early Nottingham for the collector
