Notes: this is an extremely rare antique brass spike fitting winch by Kelly of Dublin, Ireland filled with horsehair line. Dating from the early 1800’s, this is a museum quality reel. measuring 2-3/8” diameter, 46mm across the frame making this a wide drum example. A heavy hand made quality reel with a good solid feel. The front plate is stamped with the maker’s details as seen in the images. Crescent shaped crank handle with turned bone knob & early hand formed original steel centre screw. 4 brass pillars are secured with handmade steel screws to the rear housing. The reel has a smooth check clicker that purrs when turned. Original brass tapered spike on bridge cross support with the original turned locking screw. These reels only fit rods with a drilled hole to accept the spike. Once again this is a rare named Irish spike winch for the collector. Further its filled with a good length of original horsehair line, making it more respirable It forms part of a larger collection we have listed, see the last image
