A rare and highly collectible fully dressed salmon fly from Hardy of Alnwick, dating to the 1960s—an era widely regarded as the golden age of traditional fly dressing.
This unused example retains its original Hardy pattern tag but is no longer housed in its original Hardy packet. To ensure continued protection and presentation, it has been carefully rehoused in a clean, modern protective sleeve.
These exceptional flies have been authenticated in consultation with Ken Middlemist, the last surviving Hardy fly dresser. He confirms that pieces from this period were most likely tied either by himself or his esteemed colleague Tom Weatherill. During this time, Hardy’s craftsmen were considered among the finest fly dressers in the world, producing work of extraordinary precision and artistry.
Each fly is tied on high-quality hooks by trusted makers such as Partridge of Redditch or Mustad, further underscoring their authenticity and enduring quality.
The presence of the original Hardy pattern tag adds significantly to the provenance and collectability of these flies, offering a direct link to their heritage and original retail presentation.
For those interested in display or fishing use, we also offer a wide selection of similar Hardy flies in various patterns and sizes.
This piece forms part of the distinguished collection curated by the late Ulf Nordstrom of Gothenburg, adding further provenance and appeal.
