Maurice Ingham (The Carp Catchers’ Club, The Golden Scale Club)
Painted towards the end of 1996 or at the beginning of 1997, for Peter Wheat from a photograph taken by Peter Wheat.
Maurice Ingham was a member of the famous Carp Catchers’ Club and with fellow member Richard Walker co-authored Drop me a Line (1953). He also wrote and illustrated ‘Woldale’ (1996). And was involved with Peter Rogers in the compilation of ‘The Carp Catchers’ Club which bears his name (1998). He was a member of The Golden Scale Club and President of The Sheringham Society. He died on Saturday 19th of January, 2002”.
It was Denys Watkins Pitchford (BB) who named the lake Beechmere, at a similar time to his naming of Redmire Pool. BB regarded the water as one of the most important in the history of carp fishing. Another piece of angling history especially for the carp angler/historian.
Bernard Venables
We have a number of original artworks and books by Bernard.
Surprisingly, perhaps, Bernard started his writing career with a book on ‘Tanks ; their place in modern warfare’ moved on to The Football Association Book for Boys before commencing his long career in Angling journalism.

So maybe it’s not such a surprise that we are just listing a watercolour entitled ‘Middle White Pigs; Fosbury. The view is from the kitchen window of Upper Fosbury House, Fosbury, Wiltshire the home of Bernard and his wife Eileen for many years.
Middle White Pigs; Fosbury.
This is a delightful watercolour with full provenance and annotations attached to the rear from Peter Wheat to Bernard and a note back.

Comes with the 1993 catalogue of the sale of Bernard’s works in 1993.
Ideal Xmas present for a pig farmer who likes traditional angling?
