Preedy Patent Brake vintage alloy salmon reel 4.25” by J W Young ex Gary Brooker

A rare Preedy Patent Brake alloy reel in 4.25” diameter made by J W Young, Redditch. Black handle, factory brass drum screw, the solid faceplate stamped Made in England. Correct 80mm smooth brass foot, the backplate fitted with a white push brake button stamped above Patent 30740/27. The internal spring brake pad is simple and effective. A positive check click works in both directions. The reel retains most original finish and is a rare example of a brake reel to add to any collection. A great user reel for both salmon and steelhead fishing where additional braking is required.
This item is part of the late Gary Brooker MBE collection. Famed for his lead in the pop group Procol Harum shooting to fame with the iconic single Whiter Shade of Pale launched in 1967. He was appointed an MBE in 2003. A Whiter Shade of Pale was honoured by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018 sadly with Gary passing in February 2022 at the age of 76. All the items in this collection were bought by Thomas Turner from his widow Francoise (Frankie) assisted by Peter Cockwill in June 2022. A unique piece of musical history for any fishing tackle collector.
