“Watercolour of BEECHMERE POOL, near DREWSTEIGNTON in DEVON, by Maurice Ingham.
Painted towards the end of 1996 or at the beginning of 1997, for Peter Wheat from a photograph taken by Peter Wheat.
Maurice Ingham was a member of the famous Carp Catchers’ Club and with fellow member Richard Walker co-authored Drop me a Line (1953). He also wrote and illustrated ‘Woldale’ (1996). And was involved with Peter Rogers in the compilation of ‘The Carp Catchers’ Club which bears his name (1998). He was a member of The Golden Scale Club and President of The Sheringham Society. He died on Saturday 19th of January, 2002”.
It was Denys Watkins Pitchford (BB) who named the lake Beechmere, at a similar time to his naming of Redmire Pool. BB regarded the water as one of the most important in the history of carp fishing,
