“Watercolour of BEECHMERE POOL, near DREWSTEIGNTON in DEVON, by Maurice Ingham.

Painted towards the end of 1996 or at the beginning of 1997, for Peter Wheat from a photograph taken by Peter Wheat.

Maurice Ingham was a member of the famous Carp Catchers’ Club and with fellow member Richard Walker co-authored Drop me a Line (1953). He also wrote and illustrated ‘Woldale’ (1996). And was involved with Peter Rogers in the compilation of ‘The Carp Catchers’ Club which bears his name (1998). He was a member of The Golden Scale Club and President of The Sheringham Society. He died on Saturday 19^th of January, 2002”.

It was Denys Watkins Pitchford (BB) who named the lake Beechmere, at a similar time to his naming of Redmire Pool. BB regarded the water as one of the most important in the history of carp fishing,
