Just arrived as part of a fine collection this ultra rare Hardy Farne Ebona 5 1/8″ reel with Silex No 1 action. Consisting of Ebona back plate, tapered twin bulbous original white handles and white handle side brake lever. Reel stamped THE SILEX and HARDYS PAT to rear. Nickle silver plated foot running to starback and nickel plated brass bickerdyke line guard. Interesting spring check mechanism as per John Drewitts book – ‘Hardy Brothers, The Masters, The Men And Their Reels’ page 399. These reels seldom come up for sale. This model is free from any damage to the ebonite spool or the Ebona back plate. Turns fine with good crisp sounding constant check.
