This is a very interesting part of float fishing history with original floats made by Major A. Smalley who has been widely credited with ‘inventing’ these floats. None other than Peter Wheat wrote many times about this including in his book  The Pelham Manual of River Coarse Fishing. However an article in the latest edition of Classic Angling by Rod Fisher
disputes that and cites earlier examples including the Elfin Float. Classic Angling does go on to say “this collection has got historic value” . This would be a great addition to any float collection.
