TT Opinion: A handsome E.L. Sowerbutts roach pole with warm honey-coloured cane, a glossy varnished finish and closely spaced black whippings with fine contrasting trim. The maker’s transfer reads E.L. Sowerbutts, Maker, Chingford E4. Six pieces are shown, including two fine top sections, together with two removable brass caps. Age-related marks to the finish and patination to the metal fittings. An attractive collector’s example of traditional London coarse fishing tackle.
