From the Peter Wheat Collection
Very nice cased and painted cast of a tench by David Carl Forbes.
Peter Wheat describes the capture;
“I fished an overnighter in the company of Peter Mead, and Peter Butler and Herbie Green of the London Specimen Hunters Group, legering a well-baited pitch alongside a weedbed. My total catch was eight tench plus roach, perch and a Jack on lobworm and flake. The six-pounder, my then biggest ever tench came at 11.30am on the second day after scaling down to a size 10 hook and a pinch of bread.
I was working at Angler’s Mail in those days, staying with Peter Mead at his Battersea flat during the week, and having decided to case the big ‘un it was taken back to Peter’s freezer. From there it was taken by Maureen Forbes home to New Addington for husband David to make and paint this superb plaster cast, which I cherished for nearly 60 years in my study. A special fish and a fine memory of my dear friend, David Carl Forbes.
