From the Peter Wheat Collection.
2lb Roach caught by Peter Wheat.
Inscribed “Peter Wheat Roach 2lbs Hants Avon, Christchurch, Nov 1961”
Very nice colourful and decorative piece of an increasingly scarce sized roach.
In a bow fronted case.
Peter Wheat has advised the following about the capture of this fish.
“I caught this fish from the Avon downstream of Winkton weir towards Coward’s Marsh above the Royalty Fishery, trotting the stream with maggots over a ground bait mix of stale bread, biscuit crumb and crushed eggshells. I caught eight chub to 3 lb and then the roach. In my diary I called it a Red Letter Day and decided to have it set up.”
