Bruce & Walkers  Phoenix day March 2nd 1972

In true British Bulldog fighting spirit, Bruce & Walker bounced back from a horrendous fire at their rod building factory in Upwood on March 2nd 1972.

Jimmy Bruce is seen in the feature picture walking through the devastation, insisting on a rapid recovery.

In only 4 weeks a new 3000 square feet building was erected with the bonus of an oil-fired heating system.

This 4 week hold up meant a production loss of 1500 rods so time was of the essence. By the end of April, less than 8 weeks, the factory was again at full production. The two rod builders who were laid off after the fire were encouraged to return to maintain the skills level.

The new factory is already proving to be more efficient than the previous aged premises. A range of 40 different rods including a carbon-fibre Beachcaster are now manufactured by Bruce & Walker.

Thomas Turner stock a good range of high quality preowned B&W rods in both fibre glass and carbon fibre. We have many famous models such as the Hexagraph’s which remain popular with both fly and coarse fishing anglers.
