TT opinion: The B James Carp rod conversion for John Nixon. A unique rod having been bought by TT from the owner John Nixon. He moved in the carp angling elite circles of Richard Walker, Bernard Venables and fished the world over being a serving military man catching the world record line caught v blue shark of 34 lbs. he took control of Creel magazine in 1963 from Bernard Venables, his fishing companion. He rubbed shoulders with Buller, Pritchard and Kefford among others. The November 22 edition of Classic Angling magazine carries the full story of how Nixon dropped off this rod and others including a shortened S/U Mk4 carp rod to Dick Walker’s House to be reclaimed later. This rod is a 10’ 3 piece split cane rod converted from a Milward’s rod by Jimmy James of B James to carp fish. This 3 piece example is fitted with heavy metal rings. Close Whipped in burgundy red . Bronze suction ferrules, 25” cork handle, sliding brass reel rings and butt cap. Its fishable today we would love to hear if any further information relating to this perhaps unique rod and its full history
