The Leighton Light alloy & Bakelite spinning reel

Mr C Evans in 1946 was granted Patent 608-454 for his stationary spool reel.

These light alloy and Bakelite reels are quite scarce and come in left and right hand wind in two slightly variant forms.

Made by the Esher Manufacturing Company Ltd, 87 Snow Hill, Birmingham. I know this because it is embossed on the side of the casing!

The handle has a very advanced twin disc adjuster, similar to the Abu closed face reels, 501- 505 & 506 operating on rods and wheels within the body.

The length designers would go to make a spinning reel work is extraordinary.

Smaller than a Mitchell 300, these half bail reels are very prone to damage both on the alloy stem and spool flier as well as the Bakelite body.

Originally supplied in a tin box with illustrated label to the lid, the boxes are rarer than the reels.
