The Hardy Javelin Pike rod 1954/55

Hardy certainly offered a massive range of spinning rods for just about every fishing event.

The famous LRH Spinning, the Corbett, The County, Wanless, Jock Scott, Marksman, the NAAF, the West Country, Victor, Farcast, Coronation, JJH, Murdoch and so on, so why on earth did they make the Javelin, with all of the above and more available in the same time period?

Produced for just 2 short years, 1954-5, I struggled to find a reference to it in the Hardy Anglers guides of those years.

It’s an 8’ two section Palakona cane and is similar to many of the above. A stout rod for pike, good for salmon, perhaps bass and even carp, but it was so similar to many others. Perhaps that was its downfall, or was it?

Fitted with an unusual long parallel cork butt and twin sliding alloy reel rings, perhaps this was a design fault allowing the reel to come off such a heavy rod while fighting a fish.

Good news for collectors is they are about, but quite rare. We bought one this week in a collection and it’s a kind of odd stiff stick of a rod.

In fine all-round condition, I suspect it’s in the £200 bracket and a good rod to fill a collection gap for any Hardy or pike lover. Click here to buy it.
