The Bowell Provisional Patent casting reel

These are a rarity, English made alloy spinning reel with curious full circle bail arm.

It’s operated by back winding the handle and the bail arm rotates outward releasing the line, a forward wind re-engages.

Various makers over the years have been playing with this principle including the French made Crack reels. Fitted with large clutch drag knob and a loud click as the bail trip moves past the striker, these come in half bail and full circle bail, this the latter being the rarer of the two. A great collectors’ spinning reel c 1950. This one marked The Bowell Auto reel Prov Patent around the spool flier so an early one.

A Fully working example, this retails in the £150-200 bracket.
