Notes: This is an unusual antique alloy and brass side casting spinning reel based on the Malloch of Perth principle. The backplate measures 65mm in diameter, front alloy spool tapers to 55mm. Turned alloy handle, Fennell machine engraved to the winding plate, probably the owner or scratch builders name. The reel can turn through 360 degrees by pulling out the spring lever allowing it to be used for both right- and left-hand wind. The brass drum screw can be removed to gain assess to the internals. Fascinating little reel and fully working. It came along with the Irish spike reel collection (see the last image) and whilst much later, still a very interesting reel for the collector
