60+ large antique salmon flies to 3″ in leather wallet with historical background story
A fine collection of early gut eye and gut blind eye salmon flies. The lot contained in an early hand tooled brown leather fly wallet measuring 7-1/2” x4” x2” with original strap and buckle. The leather interior holds three separate parchment folders of envelopes and green fly strip tapes.
The rear pocket handwritten “Robert Orrell, Mount Lodge, St Leonards on Sea, Sussex, and Junior Carlton Club London”.
A selection of over 60 stunning salmon flies in various patterns and sizes up to 3” long, varied hook and salmon irons models. The majority of the flies have the tradition twisted gut loops and other blind eye patterns ties to gut snoods. A few coiled hanks of gut are included in the wallet.
The Junior Carlton Club was established in 1864 at 30 Pall Mall London and disbanded 1977 due to rapidly declining membership. A horrendous new building housing the club was built from the proceeds of the sale of the old site at Pall Mall. The disgusted members showed their contempt by resigning and so the club disbanded in 1977
