Hardy The Coquet Sea Rod for Silex reels

Occasionally along comes a rod which you just have to buy no matter what!

This is the Hardy Coquet Sea Rod, an 8’ Palakona cane rod in two sections dating to 1957 and it appears unused.

From the initial images sent to us, we were undecided if it was new or rebuilt and the good news is, it’s new. I can’t recall seeing another and certainly, not many 65-year-old Palakona rods in this condition still exist.

Listed in the Hardy 1957 Anglers guide as “designed for casting from shore or pier or for boat work”, the recommended reel being a 5” Hardy Sea Silex”

Fitted with anodised brass double adjustable Screw Grip reel fitting, the rod looks stunning.

It’s no shrinking violet in terms of strength, taking a ton of effort to bend it.

Complete with its maker’s reel spanner and fitted cloth bag, it’s a rare find and a great addition to any Hardy or big game sea fishing collection. Click here for our listing.
